Program (Communications) Assistant

The Coalition for Community Schools (CCS), housed at the Institute for Educational Leadership, is an alliance of national, state and local organizations in education K-16, youth development, community planning and development, family support, health and human services, government and philanthropy as well as national, state and local community school networks. Description
The Coalition for Community Schools seeks an enthusiastic early career professional with strong web design and management, writing, and communication skills to support and enhance the organization's website content, support core communication functions, including, but not limited to: webinars, newsletters, blogs, press releases; and to assist with meeting logistics, etc.
Major Duties Include:
Website
- Monitor and update website content ( e.g., news, blogs, report design)
- Create content for website pages as needed
- Create images for the website
Communications/Writing
- Create content and manage community school articles, monthly newsletters and press releases.
- Conduct interviews and write articles for news stories, briefs, as well as blog commentaries.
- Provide support for print and other communications projects.
- Edit documents and publications.
- Provide technical support for webinars.
Events
- Assist in event planning and management
- Provide on-site support where needed
Other Tasks May Include:
- Assist in dissemination of CCS publications
- Maintain continuous update of contact database and newsletter listserv
- General administrative duties as assigned
Required skills
- Strong writing, website design and management writing, communication and organizational skills;
- Experience in web design software programs;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Strong knowledge of English grammar and usage; strong editing and proofreading ability;
- Able to work in a team environment as well as independently;
- Interest in education and/or public policy, leadership and reform.
Qualifications
- BA required from a four-year college or university; prior internship or work experience in a related field. Degree or a strong background in journalism, communication, Education, etc is a plus.
- Strong interest in social media platforms and communications strategies
- Demonstrate proficiency web skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software programs.
- Website development and support experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary Range: $36-42,000 commensurate with experience and skills.
- Excellent benefit plan.
