Karabelle Pizzigati currently serves as a policy and leadership development consultant working with public and private agencies on issues and advocacy to improve the health, education and well-being of children and families. She is the former director of public policy for the Washington, D.C.-based Child Welfare League of America, a national association that links public and voluntary child-serving agencies. As CWLA's top advocate on Capitol Hill, she led the development and implementation of a national child welfare agenda.
Before joining CWLA, Dr. Pizzigati directed the staff of the Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families of the U.S. House of Representatives, a panel that helped focus public attention on a diverse array of issues, including prenatal care, early childhood education, youth development, and work and family matters.
She has participated on several national and state advisory and policy-making panels, including the Technical Work Group for the National Longitudinal Study of Child and Adolescent Well-Being, the Maryland Health Care Foundation, and the Maryland State Board of Education. She is Past President of the National Association of State Boards of Education and currently chairs the Board of Directors of Parents as Teachers National Center, a national early learning organization.
She received her doctorate in child development and family studies from Cornell University.
