Karabelle Pizzigati currently
serves as a policy and leadership development consultant to public
and private agencies focusing on issues affecting children and families
and on advocacy in their behalf. She is the former director of public
policy for the Washington, D.C.-based Child Welfare League of America,
a national association that links more than 1,100 public and voluntary
child-serving agencies. As CWLA's top advocate on Capitol Hill,
she led the development and implementation of a national child welfare
agenda.
Before joining CWLA, Dr. Pizzigati served as the staff director
of the Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families of the
U.S. House of Representatives, a panel that helped focus public
attention on a diverse array of issues, including prenatal care,
early childhood education, youth development, and work and family
matters.
She serves on several national and state advisory and policy-making
panels, including the Technical Work Group for the National Longitudinal
Study of Child and Adolescent Well-Being, the Maryland State Board of Education, and Board
of Directors of Parents as Teachers National Center.
She received her doctorate in child development and family studies
from Cornell University.
