Taryn joined the IEL staff in December of 2004. As Research Coordinator for Leadership Programs, she manages and conducts research for the Lumina Foundation in Education’s evaluation of the Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP). Her other responsibilities include developing and implementing a broad array of activities to support the national and local EPFP sites. She also provides periodic research and analytic support for projects of IEL including the ASCD Commission on the Whole Child and the Washington Center’s Workshops in Disability Public Policy.
Prior to joining IEL, Taryn was the Director of Programs at the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues (NAUDL) in Chicago, Illinois. Responsibilities included providing professional development and technical assistance to school leaders and secondary school teachers. Previously, Taryn researched various educational issues with the Program in Afterschool Education and Research (PAER), and the Civil Rights Project at Harvard University. She also coordinated and taught a policy debate program at a juvenile detention center in Rhode Island.
Taryn holds a Masters degree in education with a concentration in administration, policy, and social planning from Harvard University, and an AB in public policy with a concentration in education policy from Brown University. Taryn is a recipient of the Brown University’s Taubman Center Award for Public Service and a member of the 2006-2007 DC EPFP class.
