ROBERT D. MULLER, ED.D., JOINS IEL AS SENIOR FELLOW

Rob’s expertise and experience providing leadership and counsel in a variety of organizational settings

will help anchor and expand IEL’s school reform efforts,”

says IEL president, Betty Hale.

March 31, 2006, Washington, DC Robert D. Muller, Ed.D., who created Practical Strategy  to provide independent education policy and management consulting services to educational institutions, government, and non-profit organizations, joined the Institute for Educational Leadership as a Senior Fellow.  He will help strengthen IEL’s efforts to improve outcomes for children and youth, with a particular emphasis on IEL’s high school reform work and strategic planning.

Before starting his own firm, Muller was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Vocational and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education, where he was responsible for the day-to-day leadership and general management of a portfolio of $1.9 billion in federal investment and more than 120 employees.  He also served as senior adviser to the Deputy Secretary.

Muller’s private sector experience includes technology and management consulting for Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Inc., where he was part of a change management, performance improvement, and business process reengineering practice.  He has 20 years of experience leading organizations and projects in government, business and not-for-profit organizations.  In addition to his education focus, he has broad expertise in the strategic management and leadership, and operation of government programs.

Muller holds an Ed.D. in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania, Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, and B.A. from Amherst College.  In addition to many other activities in his community, Muller presently chairs the Montgomery County, MD Interagency Coordinating Board, which sets policy and provides oversight for the after-school use of more than 190 schools and public facilities.

The Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) has spent the last forty years helping individuals and organizations connect with and utilize the best in people, knowledge, actions, and networks needed to improve results for all America's children. IEL’s mission is to help build the capacity of people and organizations in education and related fields to work together across policies, programs, and sectors to achieve better futures for all children and youth.  We provide services in three program areas:  Developing and Supporting Leaders, Strengthening School-Family-Community Connections, and Connecting and Improving Policies and Systems that Serve Children and Youth.
