The School Leadership for the 21st Century Initiative's mission is to spark and assist multisector efforts to develop policies and practices and create a new generation of education leaders. To achieve its mission, the School Leadership for the 21st Century Initiative will foster inter-sector relationships, bring greater coherence to these complicated issues and engage the public in addressing the leadership crisis.

IEL has convened task forces to report on critical issues and make recommendations for teachers, principals, and district and state leaders. Initiative activities also will include information gathering and organization, developing public awareness, and initiating collaborative activity. IEL thanks key partners, who have provided vital support.
