Education Policy Forum Discussions
IEL and the American Educational Research Association (AERA) have co-sponsored monthly education policy forum luncheons for several years. These are informal discussions, held at the Library of Congress, featuring topical issues, Q&A, and opportunities to network. Past topics/speakers have covered a wide range of policy issues, for example: House/Senate education committee staff regarding reauthorization of the Higher Education Act; the nation's first U.S. Commissioner of Education Research discussing the Institute of Education Sciences' (IES) research program; a former education editor of the Washington Post discussing the confusion and complexity of leadership and responsibility for America's education system.
The forum series runs September-July and are held at The Library of Congress, Madison Building, 2nd Street and Independence Avenue, SE, 6th Floor, Montpelier Room (Dining Room C). (Closest subway station is Capital South.) Space is limited - RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED and are taken in order of receipt. A $13 donation for the subsidized lunch is requested at the door.
To receive these and other IEL-related forum notices in the future, send an e-mail to Denise Slaughter at slaughterd@iel.org.
