The New Jersey Education Policy Fellowship Program is a ten-month professional development initiative sponsored by the Center for Effective School Practices at Rutgers University. Designed for mid-career professionals involved in educational policy-making, implementation and human services, the program includes three major strands: Public Policy Processes and Issues - This strand emphasizes the policy development process and current educational initiatives in the state of New Jersey; Leadership and Skill Development This strand explores research-based leadership models and focuses on the development of related skills and their application in authentic contexts. Leadership assessments are also included; and Networking This strand enables the Fellows to build relationships with legislative power brokers, educational organizations, and EPFP™ alumni throughout the state.
Fellows meet on a monthly basis and participate in a variety of activities including: Seminars sponsored by the Public Education Institute; Small group discussions; Text-based discussions and protocols; Group work; Site visits to the state capitol, universities and exemplary programs; Informal meetings with authors, advocates and legislators; Simulations; and conference calls.
