National High School Alliance

The National High School Alliance (HS Alliance), of which IEL is a partner, works to mobilize the resources, knowledge, and capacity of individuals and organizations to work collectively in shaping policy, practice, and public engagement that foster high achievement, close the achievement gap, and promote civic and personal growth among all youth in our high schools and communities.

In order to achieve its mission, the HS Alliance adopted a set of goals that will guide the group's integrated work plan to fulfill its mission:

  • Build opportunities for shared learning and concerted action about, practice, policy, and research among organizations interested in high school age youth.
  • Inform practice, policy, and research at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Increase public awareness and engagement to support the development of effective practices and policies.

In April 2005, the HS Alliance released A Call to Action: Transforming High School for All Youth, a framework of six core principles and recommended strategies for guiding leaders at all levels in the complex process of transforming the traditional, comprehensive high school. The Call to Action represents the collective knowledge of the HS Alliance’s partner organizations. Click here to download A Call to Action.

The HS Alliance also regularly produces reports, protocols, and newsletters to keep leaders at all levels informed about policy and practice specific to issues of high school and youth.
